Jeans fever

I will wear jeans until the day I die, just because it’s one of the (many) loves of my life. In practice it means that no day passes by without me wearing jeans. If it’s not a pair of trousers it is a denim jacket, skirt or dress. The thing is: when I’m not wearing jeans it feels like a part of me is missing.

Winter keeps dragging on and I have to deal with it. One way to do so is by compensating the lack of blossoms on the trees - which should have popped out by now, if only the weather wasn't going crazy.

Even though I’m not that great a cook I L.O.V.E. (to organise and throw) dinner parties and brunches. That’s a problem, one would think. Indeed: think, because there are ways to cope with this “paradox”.

 

Monday reds

For years I have despised red, so I refused to wear it. These days I love the colour of love, as you can see. I thought a Monday morning was the perfect moment to show you this red moodboard, just to make the Monday blues go away.

Monumental walk-in closet

 The red (fashion) army is coming. That’s the first impression I had when entering Fashion Victim, an exhibition by Axelle Red in the Fashion Museum Hasselt (Belgium). Red mannequins dressed in the most crazy, beautiful, nice, weird, cracked and eccentric outfits: that is in one sentence the, one could say, motionless fashion show. (The mannequins were not parading, but there was music everywhere and videos were playing in the background.)

Sunshine, spring, summertime: they are all supposed to be here soon. While awaiting them I am making a spring/summer strawberry dress to wear when they (finally) get here.

It’s quite a challenge to create a wearable piece of clothing but with (a little) help from specialists in the field I will manage. The pattern I used looks professional; let’s hope the same will be said about the dress once it’s finished. 

To give you an idea (because the pictures here don't): it's a Jackie-O-inspired dress with a boat neck and high waist.

Pastels, sweets and Caffè Noir

The perfect place to have a break from shopping on a lazy Sunday is a coffee bar. In Antwerp (Kloosterstraat and surroundings) the perfect place to take a breather is Caffè Noir.

 

As you can see a coffee break includes sweets and at Caffè Noir that means cookies and/or cupcakes, Lily's cupcakes more specifically. They are D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S. It’s the names of the different flavours, the pastel illustrations on the menu and of course the way these baked goods taste (i.e. very good) that makes them irresistible. Being a chocoholic I picked the “Death by Chocolate” and I have to admit that I couldn’t agree more with what I read on the menu: it's "simply to die for". The coffee (also important when having a coffee break) was great too. As I tend to drink way too much coffee lately I ordered a decaffeinated cup.

After the “refuel” the shopping continued. What we were hunting for: a nice little table. What we went home with: what one could say is the coolest bag ever. Tada:

I hope spring will be here to stay very soon so I can start using this pink bag for sunny walks in the city and far beyond.

The Hunger Games

In between coming home after work and having dinner there is this terrible time of the day where I’m starving (almost to death) after having spent eight hours sitting at my desk - sometimes just working, other times working hard and from time to time working really, really hard. Not that it matters because however busy I have been at work, hunger creeps in every day and takes over my body and soul - making me grumpy and extremely impatient.

Rolls rule

Lately I tend to roll up the sleeves of my sweaters at work, hoping to prevent ink and pencil stains that way. It began as a practical solution but now I’m really starting to like the rolled up sleeves. 

I guess I’m guided by a feeling of nostalgia here - again. (You may have noticed that I like to look back at my childhood from time to time – oh god this really sounds like an eigthy-year-old, doesn’t it?) Anyway, when I was a little girl I often wore clothes that were too big, especially when it were “leftovers” from my older sisters or nieces who had outgrown the clothes. My mother used to roll up sleeves and legs then to make the garments fit me better. I didn't like it at that time but people change and so does fashion: at the moment "rolls" rule. Besides sweaters I'm also thinking: "rolled" chino pants or T-shirts at the beach.
